I don’t know about you, but I am anxiously waiting for Alone Season 6! Rumor has it that it will air in June. While we wait, here is a list of the knives Alone Show contestants have released after they were on the show! (Please let me know if I missed anyone!)
This post is many months late, and I am so sorry about that! There are lots of plans in the works for more frequent posting on this site, it’s just that I have been slightly off of my game due to being pregnant. (yay!) More content is coming your way soon. But enough of that, let’s talk about Zachary Fowler, winner of Alone season 3! (At least it’s been long enough now you can’t complain about spoilers :D)
The final episode of season 3 started with three amazing people, Megan Hanacek, Carleigh Fairchild, and Zachary Fowler. It was an incredibly emotional episode. The audience knew that two of the three contestants were headed home before the end. Megan left at 78 days, and for the first time in Alone history, the second-to-last person did not tap out. Carleigh was medically evacuated at 86 days due to her BMI dropping below 17. (Many fans took issue with this, but she was incredibly thin and they have to draw a line somewhere.)
Fowler too, had lost a ton of weight (it ended up being a total of 70 lbs) and the Alone show crew was keeping a closer eye on him at that point. He didn’t know that it was his last day when the crew came to check on him again in that last week. Fowler said himself that he knew his weight loss could be troublesome and was praying he had kept enough bodyweight on to stay a little longer. Then, during an interview where he was describing how much he missed his family, his wife showed up behind him and he learned then that he had endured the longest – a whopping 87 days.
Wow! For those of you that have seen the latest episode of Alone, you saw the struggle was REAL for Dave Nessia. The happy go-lucky guy shrank over 40lbs during the 73 days that he was on the show into a surprisingly still optimistic, but incredibly physically depleted man that had to be medically evacuated from the show.
If you’re caught up on Season 3 of the Alone Show you know that last week, much to many people’s dismay, Callie North tapped out at a remarkable 72 days. Early in the season, discussions about who may win the show often included snide remarks about the “hippy chick” and her strategy. As we quickly got to know Callie though, hashtags such as #TeamCallie appeared on Twitter, and many people who may have smack-talked the “hippy” approach to bushcraft/survival were humbled. This girl kicked some MAJOR butt. It was so fun to watch.
Tweets, (and other discussions online) are generally positive when it comes to Callie. This is pretty cool because for whatever reason when people appear on TV, haters come out of the woodwork and, well, hate. God bless the poor souls that tap out early in the show. The Internet can be a harsh place.
A lot of Alone Show fans have been enjoying watching Zachary Fowler this season, and for a good reason! The boat builder from Appleton, Maine has been one of the busiest and most creative people during his stay in Patagonia. A lot of the crafty things that the contestants do on this show are not given a lot of screen time. Luckily, the local paper from his hometown has been doing some fantastic interviews with Fowler that I wanted to let you know about. Linked below are articles that have been published after each show airs. Fowler can talk about what was actually shown on camera each week, so through these interviews we get to learn a little more about what he created out there.
For those of you that are up to date on the latest season of Alone, you’ll remember Greg. Known online sometimes simply as Ol’ Drywall, Greg Ovens has a special place in Alone Show fans hearts. He may not have taken the prize money home, but many wish he could have. The main goal Greg had was to use the prize money from the show to build his daughter a house, and he toughed out an amazing 51 days in Patagonia working towards that goal. He had the mental fortitude to keep going, but Mother Nature herself was the one to send Greg home.
His fans have set up a GoFundMe on the behalf of Greg. We have been working with the fan who originally set up the fundraiser to make sure that it gets connected to Greg and his family so that they will be the beneficiary of the campaign. If you have a couple bucks to spare – consider sending a couple Greg’s way. Thank you!
UPDATE 1/29/17: The GoFundMe is picking up steam! Many Alone Show contestants are pitching in as well as the fans to help Greg out. Thank you to Nicole Apelian, Zachary Fowler, Carleigh Fairchild and the rest of the folks who have donated so far. Dave McIntyre and his girlfriend have even matched the total once, donating $465!!
